Three teen boys looking for unlocked cars, found a car with the keys in a driveway, and took off, according to the sheriff.
The teens were seen from above as they entered the high-end Italian performance vehicle. The crew on the ground was warned of a possible theft-in-progress.
The teens took off after the police approached the car.
The 15-year-old who was driving lost control of the vehicle and careened over a curb, hitting a sign and flipping.
The teens were arrested after stealing the pizza delivery car.
Medical aid was given to the suspects.
A teenager died in a car at the scene. The 16-year-old passenger in the back seat had life threatening injuries and was not expected to survive. A driver is hospitalized.
Gualtieri said the incident was a "crime of opportunity."
He said that when he was an inexperienced driver, he lost it when he drove at 80 mph.
