Past and future.

The Kansas City Chiefs are a great team. Well-run organizations can overcome injuries and a hard salary cap to make an entertaining Sunday night football game.

There are some free advice to give to future Kansas City Chiefs opponents. Don't let the opening kick start go to waste.

It gives Patrick Mahomes an extra chance to throw the pigskin. The Chiefs were able to get the ball deep in opposing territory after the fumbled ball.

After all of the yelling, missed field goals, and an intercept on the game's final drive, the Chiefs looked like their dominant offensive selves on Sunday night. The defense of the Buccaneers has been one of the better units all season, but they couldn't stop the Chiefs in the first half. If he doesn't drop a pass with no one around him, the Chiefs will go up by more than they did.

The start of the game was made worse by that kick. Tom Brady coughing up the ball on a sack in the second quarter was a blow to the Buccaneers, but they were able to put together a touchdown drive at the end of the first half.

Despite abandoning the running game, the Chiefs were able to score a field goal despite being held to a field goal by the Bucs. The Bucs were kept out of the end zone until late in the third quarter, as the Chiefs were able to get pressure up the middle.

After the ugly afternoon in Indianapolis, the Chiefs slicing through the offense like a hot knife through butter is a good sign. If the Bucs don't take their scripted plays down the field for an opening drive, what will happen? It's a good chance that they would have taken the lead after Tom Brady's big day.

Don't judge the defense by this single game. They haven't given up more than 15 points in a game yet this season, and they didn't play the Bears in four weeks. The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints were both knocked off by the same team. The offensive line and wide receiver corps were decimated as they lost to the Green Bay Packers. If the Packers had to face the Bucs in the 4th quarter, it would be more difficult for them to hold the low point total. On Sunday night, they got their starting left tackle back.

Mistakes put the Buccaneers in a hole that they would never get out of, but they fought back and showed what a healthy offense can look like. They are still the best team in the south. Even without a 6-foot-4 wide receiver and a 235 pound running back, the Chiefs showed that they can drive down the field and have a goal line package.

Both of these teams will play at home in the playoffs.
