The Giants are close to a reunion with Collins.

The Giants are set to host Collins for a meeting on Monday, setting the stage for him to return to the team where he began his career.

The Giants had several injuries in Sunday's win over the Chicago Bears, and Collins was scheduled to visit them before that.

He was released from the Washington Commanders in March. He remained on the free-agent market into the regular season. Collins has not performed well at a Pro Bowl level in recent years, but he was solid last season in a hybrid role.

Collins played the standard safety position for the first time in his career, but the Giants would look for him to play the hybrid role more. He wasn't an elite pass-coverage option even during his prime, and it became obvious late in his Washington tenure that he was a liability deep down the field.

It is possible to use his skill set in a way that will allow him to help in coverage and not be an important part of the defense.

The Giants are currently ranked 28th in the league in run defense, despite being off to a good start. Things aren't getting better anytime soon without an acquisition like Collins.
