The Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 6-3 on Sunday night to win the season series and avoid a three-game sweep.

The Braves moved to within two games of the Mets in the National League East after sweeping the three-game series. The Braves would win their fifth straight division title if either Atlanta or the Mets lost.

There are a lot of guys who want to win. Since the day I walked in, that's all it has been. That is the number one on the program.

The last game of the season for the New York Mets will be against the last place Washington Nationals. The Atlanta Braves will play in Miami. The series begin Monday.

If the season ends in a tie, Atlanta will win the NL East.

Since the beginning of the year, we've felt confident. It didn't go our way early in the year but we pulled on the same rope and didn't try to do too much. We are just playing the game of baseball and having fun.

The Braves won five of the six games they played against the Mets. On June 1, New York had a 1012 game lead, but it's now lower than it's been all season.

New York came to Atlanta to try and win its first division title in three years. Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt both lost on Friday and Saturday.

Over the course of the series, they combined for a 6.91 earned run average with six home runs allowed.

"We still have three games left in the regular season, we're still going to the playoffs, that doesn't change; but there's a lot of learning points that we can take from this series moving forward." The Braves played better than us. They played well over the weekend.

The winner of the NL East will get a bye into the first round of the playoffs. The winner of the wild-card series will move on to the divisional round of the playoffs.

Atlanta is on the verge of a fifth straight division title and is looking to repeat as world series champion.

The atmosphere all weekend was noticeable to Brian Snitker.

He told his wife that the playoffs were starting. It felt like a playoffs weekend. The place was still packed and it was about as electric asTruist Park.

The Braves took the lead with a three-run third after Swanson hit a home run. d'Arnaud's single scored Ronald Acuna and Austin Riley to give the Braves a 4-3 lead. Bassitt had three hits and three walks.

His 410-foot shot landed in the seats in right-center as he hit his 33rd home run of the season. For the second year in a row, Olson exceeded the century mark.

When we were flirting around.500, everyone knew we were not performing up to par. It was trusting the talent and the guys in the locker room that made it happen. Everyone was doing their work and it would turn around and you would win.

In the first, Morton stranded runners on first and second, but in the second he gave up a home run that tied the game at one. The righty struck out Francisco Lindor when he was on the run.

The Mets got on the board in the third when Jeff McNeil hit a solo home run off Morton to make it a one-run game. Morton was sixth in the NL in home runs allowed.

In his first start since signing a one-year, $20 million contract to stay with Atlanta, Morton gave up three runs and nine hits in 413 frames.

After walking Brandon Nimmo with two outs in the sixth, Dylan Lee left the game. The pitcher struck out Lindor.

In the seventh, Raisel Iglesias faced four batters, A.J. Minter faced the minimum in the eighth, and Kenley Jansen closed out the series with a clean ninth.

In 47 chances, he has 40 saves.

The Braves' relief team, which posted a 1.70 earned run last month, has not allowed a run in the past two nights.

Buck Showalter said he was proud of everything they had done. This isn't tied to anything. If I know these guys, they will bounce back and make someone feel their pain.

The AP and Kiley McDaniel contributed to the report.
