The Financial Times is reporting that TikTok will bring its live shopping feature to North America. It will be launched with large brands to take advantage of the holiday shopping season.
TikTok Shop can be found in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia. It launched in the UK last year.
9 million live broadcasts per month have been hosted on the feature, which sold over 10 billion products in one year, triple what it did the previous year. TikTok put a planned launch in Europe on hold because the UK's TikTok Shop hasn't performed as well as expected.
The underlying technology is said to be provided by the US company TalkShop Live. The agreements are still being discussed and no contracts have been signed.
TikTok did not deny or confirm US availability. "When it comes to market expansion for TikTok Shop, we are always guided by demand and are always exploring new and different options for how we can best serve our community, creators and merchants in markets around the world." "These efforts include exploring partnerships which further support a seamless experience for merchants, which is an important part of ourecosystem."
Facebook abandoned its Live Shopping feature a day ago. Merchants are now being asked to showcase their products via reels, ads and product tags on Facebook. Last year, TikTok began testing a Shopping tab that would allow business users to add their profiles, sync their product catalogues and link to their online stores. Walmart piloted live shopping in the US.
