According to a league source, the consultant who cleared Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during the game against the Buffalo Bills has been fired.
After hitting the back of his head on the ground, Tagovailoa was evaluated for a concussion. The quarterback was allowed to stay in the game and play in Thursday's game.
He was taken to the hospital after he hit his head on the turf in the second quarter. He was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with a concussion and neck injury after he was carted off the field.
The Dolphins said that Tagovailoa had a concussion and was in the protocol with no timetable for a return.
The Dolphins said Tagovailoa passed multiple concussion evaluations, including one at halftime of the Bills game.
The league's concussion protocol was the subject of a request by the players association. On SportsCenter, Stephania Bell was told that an active review was still going on.
