The Danish Energy Agency said on Saturday that gas appears to have finished leaking out of the damaged Nord Stream 2 line and that the remaining fuel is being spilled into the Baltic Sea due to a series of mysterious leaks in the majority of Russian-owned natural gas lines.

NATO and the European Union have claimed that the explosions were intentional, but western authorities have stopped short of blaming Russia.

Putin blamed the leaks on "terror attacks" carried out by Western "Anglo-Saxons" in the speech that announced his intention to annex four Ukrainian regions.

The allegations that Russia is behind the destruction have been dismissed by the Kremlin spokesman, who called them "predictable, absurd and stupid".

Russia has limited fuel supplies to Europe ahead of cold winter weather and blamed Western sanctions for the technical problems that caused the cut off of gas flow fromNord Stream 1.

CNN reported that European security officials spotted Russian Navy support vessels near the site of the leaks around the time of the underwater explosions.

The United Nations was told this week that the leaks appeared to be caused by the equivalent of hundreds of millions of dollars of explosives.

There were four leaks discovered Monday after pressure dropped in the two pipes. There was fuel in the lines that were leaking into the Baltic Sea, with photos showing large, bubbling areas on the surface of the water above the leaks. The Danes have issued a warning for vessels not to travel within 5 nautical miles of the leaks. The conflict between Russia and the West over the war in Ukraine was one of the highest-profile examples of the economic clash. The Chancellor of Germany dropped certification of theNord Stream 2 just two days before the invasion of Ukraine. Before the war, Russia supplied 40% of Europe's gas supplies.

Surprising Fact

Tucker Carlson made a suggestion on his show that the US was behind the leaks. Biden said that a Western conspiracy was behind the leaks.

Tangent

It's not clear how much gas has been released from the pipes, but experts say the leaks could cause the biggest release of methane ever recorded. It's not clear what impact the leaks could have on climate change, as methane contributes more to the greenhouse effect than other gases.

What We Don't Know

It's not known at this point how the pipes will be repaired and if they'll be able to supply gas in the future.

There are unexplained leaks that hit Russia's gas pipes.

The European security officials observed Russian Navy ships in the vicinity of the leak.

The biggest methane leak in history is not catastrophic.

The West doesn't agree with Putin's claim of sabotage.

Biden called the leaks a deliberate act of sabotage.
