Miguel Almiron celebrates
Miguel Almiron scored two goals in a Premier League match for the first time since netting a double against Southampton in February 2021

With their first win of the season,Newcastle United moved up to sixth in the league with a four-point victory over Cottagers.

Nathaniel Chalobah was sent off for a high challenge on Sean Longstaff in the 8th minute of the game.

Almiron put the game out of reach in the 33rd minute with a wonderful volley after Joe Willock's headed goal.

Longstaff added a third for the visitors just before the break, hitting home a rebound after Leno tipped the ball onto the post.

In the second half Almiron scored on a Willock pass.

Bobby Decordova-Reid headed home a cross from the other side.

Newcastle dominate with electric attack

With Alexander Isak picking up a knock on international duty with Sweden, Almiron's slick display and Wilson's return to action could not have come at a better time.

The strike was special. A looping pass from Bruno Guimaraes led to the first goal of the season for the Asuncionan.

He thought he had scored a hat-trick midway through the second half, but his effort was ruled out for an off-the-ball incident.

Wilson has scored four goals in four top-flight matches against the Cottagers after opening the scoring.

The former Bournemouth star was close to scoring a second in the 28th minute after hitting the post in the opening exchanges.

Midfielder Joe Willock was active for Eddie Howe's side, picking up two assists and forcing fine diving saves from Leno either side of the half-time break.

Injuries hamper sorry Fulham

The referee initially showed a yellow card to Chalobah for his challenge on Longstaff but changed his mind after using the VAR.

There only seemed to be one winner once the game was decided.

Things went from bad to worse for Marco Silva's side when they lost their star player in the 37thminute.

He was joined on the bench by Layvin, who was making his debut.

Decordova-Reid's goal came from the only shot that the hosts were able to get.

The hosts dropped to 8th in the table after the defeat.

Next Sunday, the Cottagers go to West Ham away from home.
