Cal Raleigh hit a walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the SeattleMariners a 2-1 victory over the Oakland A's and end the longest playoff streak in baseball.

Raleigh, pinch-hitting for Luis Torrens, hit a 3-2 pitch from Domingo Acevedo just inside the right-field foul pole for a solo home run that sent the SeattleMariners to the playoffs for the first time in 13 years.

Fans and players lifted themselves from the burden of two decades without seeing playoffs, as Seattle's celebration on the field lasted more than 10 minutes.

It had been a long time since the last time the team advanced to play a spotlight game, which was in October, and was managed by Lou Piniella, and the team was led by a pair of rookies.

The 86th win and the one that sent them back to the playoffs happened in the most stress-inducing way possible. Seattle was unable to solve Oakland starter Ken Waldichuk and an assembly line of relief pitchers, who held the team to only Ty France's run in the first.

Raleigh's home run in the ninth was the most ever by a Seattle catcher.

Seattle remained 112 games behind Toronto for the top wild-card spot and one half-game behind the other two, as the three continued to jockey for seeding.

The place in the table did not matter. After punching the final American League ticket, it was time for the playoffs.

The longest active playoff streak in any of the four major professional sports was ended by Seattle, but the Kings have not made the NBA playoffs in six years. The only current team that hasn't played in the World Series is the M's.

The last time the M's reached the playoffs, they tied a major league record by winning 116 games, but lost to the Yankees in the ALCS.

He made a mistake by allowing a home run to go by him.

He was retired on a double play in the seventh.

After the eighth, Gilbert received a standing ovation and fans begged for a run.

The stage for Raleigh was set by Matt Brash, who struck out two in the ninth.
