The city of St. is located in the northeastern part of the United States Albert Pujols hit his 701st home run on Friday night in the Cards' win over the Pirates.

Pujols hit his 22nd home run of the season, a two-run shot over the Big Mac Land sign in left field at Busch Stadium, in the bottom of the fourth. There was a solo drive in the fourth.

Pujols faced Oviedo for the first time and made the right-handed pitcher the 484th different pitcher he has hit a home run against.

Pujols said that it was a good pitch to hit and that he put the best swing on it. It was all done. Just not trying to do too much.

He hadn't hit a home run in a week. After two starts and one pinch-hit appearance, Pujols had not hit a home run.

The crowd at Busch Stadium gave Albert Pujols a standing ovation before he tipped his cap to end the game.

Pujols said it was awesome. I didn't know it would be this way. It's great to be embraced like this. This is what I've been receiving all year, but today was special. Overall, it was a great evening.

He was honored for hitting his 700th last week. The owner, president and manager of the team gave him a bat made of gold.

His 55th home run against the Pirates was his third most against any team, behind Houston and the Chicago Cubs.

The manager of the Pirates appreciated Pujols' achievements.

Shelton said, "I think we're seeing one of the best hitters of our generation and he has had an unbelievable second half.'' Right now, you can't make mistakes to him. We made a mistake and he hit the ball out of the park. Over the course of his career, what he's done is very special.

Pujols is fourth on the all-time home run list with 712.
