Tesla's humanoid robot Optimus waved and danced on stage at the company's AI event. Elon Musk said the bot could do more, but he 'didn't want it to fall on its face'

At the company's Artificial Intelligence Day on Friday, the public debut of the long-awaited robot, Optimus, took place.

During the event, the bot waved and danced for the crowd on stage.

The robot can do more than we thought. We didn't want it to fall on its face.

The video showed the prototype lifting a box, watering a plant, and doing some light lifting in a factory.

In its initial debut, the "robot" was revealed to be a human costume, though it was first introduced as a concept. The robot would be boring, repetitious and dangerous, according to Musk at the time.

At this year's Artificial Intelligence day, the prototype Musk presented was built with off-the-shelf materials, but he said it was a fully-designed version of his car.

The second bot was carried by a team of engineers and will walk in a few weeks.
