Developers making games for the platform were surprised when they heard that Stadia would be shutting down.
Rebecca Ann Heineman, CEO of Olde Skuul, said in an interview that one of her employees sent a message saying "is this true" with a link. I follow the link and it says 'okay'. On November 1st, Olde Skuul was going to launch Luxor Evolved on Stadia Pro and was going to have a meeting with Google to discuss the release plan. It isn't happening now.
It's sad all around.
Many people were surprised by Heineman. BrandonSheffield, creative director at Necrosoft Games, said in an email that they were having marketing discussions with Stadia. Hyper Gunsport was being worked on by Necro Soft. The software development kit was updated two days ago. I think the platform was gaining a lot of traction.
Some people shared their frustration on the social networking site. Mike Rose of No More Robots said in a message that he was overwhelmed. There will be a game in November. Who wants to think that they will not be paid the money they are owed?
"After weeks of paperwork and preparations to bring Donut Dodo, Sir Lovelot, and Sigi to Stadia, we successfully finalized the onboarding process with GOOGLE yesterday," the developer said. Stadia is shutting down within two hours. It's sad.
Developers could be affected by Stadia's sudden shut down. The platform didn't reach critical mass so developers didn't earn a lot. They probably thought it was one of many places where people could play their games. Developers can't make money selling their games during the last months of the service's life because of the shut off of commerce in the Stadia store.
Consumers will be getting some money back if they purchase Stadia hardware or software from the company. It is not clear what form of reimbursement developers will get.
Developers might be getting some form of reimbursement.
Olde Skuul said on Friday that they are working to make it correct. Heineman says that she was approached by a Stadia representative about reimbursing the studio for development costs. Stadia exclusive features were planned for the game, but are now allowed to be implemented on other platforms. He doesn't have any details, but he knows that Google will try to do something for Necrosoft. A request for comment was not replied to by the search engine.
Both Heineman andSheffield were looking forward to the launch of Stadia Pro because of the revenue it would bring. "Stadia was a pillar for us, because we knew by launching into Pro we'd get a significant chunk of revenue, enough to pay our development costs back all by themselves." The studio will not be affected by being unable to launch on Stadia. Heineman only expected to break even on Stadia. We were realistic that we could have made a lot of money on the Stadia version.
Q-Games'PixelJunk Raiders is one of the few exclusives on the platform. Q-Games said in a statement thatPixelJunk Raiders will no longer be available to play once the service closes.
Hughes said that the company is open to working with publishers to bring the game to other platforms. Q-Games brought back older games before, so maybe it will be possible to give the game a second chance. The original Gunsport may go down with the ship.
Companies are looking at ways to let their customers play. IO Interactive said that they are looking into ways for you to continue your experience on other platforms. You will be able to transfer your purchases to the PC. Smaller developers may not be able to give the same perks to their players.
The players were apologetic and nice.
Losing Stadia means the loss of a positive community. The Stadia players were apologetically nice because they were so hated by the other players. They gave any new game that came out a try, they were really supportive of developers and of each other, and the platform cultivated one of the least toxic player groups I have seen on any platform. We wanted to release the game on Stadia because we wanted them to support the original game the same way they supported the original game.
