Bears running back David Montgomery won't play in the team's game against the New York Giants.
Montgomery injured his knee and ankle in the first quarter of the Bears' win over the Texans. He didn't practice this week and wasn't seen during the portion of practice open to the media.
In place of Montgomery, the Bears will once again turn to second year running back Khalil Herbert. Herbert rushed for 157 yards and two touchdown against the Texans and averaged 97 scrimmage yards and 22 touches per week during a four-game stretch where Montgomery was out for the rest of the year.
"Maybe he didn't have as many touches in the first couple weeks, but now he comes and he's ready to rock 'n' roll when he gets the opportunity, he took advantage of it," said offensive comissionerluke getsy We think we have a few special backs and that's why we didn't blink. We're fortunate to have him, he's one of our rocks.
The Chicago Bears have ruled out two players for the game.
Velus Jones Jr., who admitted this week that he has been dealing with a setback with his injury, is listed as questionable for the fourth week of the season. He was a full participant in practice on Friday. Jones did not play in the first three games of the season and did not play in the second preseason game.
Richard said that they were just hopeful that he was out there. We hope he plays. Our game plan is usually tailored to anyone who wears a helmet. We don't change much. There are some special things for some special players, but we go by the HITS principle, technique and basics.
CairoSantos missed Thursday's and Friday's practices for personal reasons. RobertQuinn missed the past two days of practice because of an illness. He has an injury and is questionable.
Roquan Smith did not have an injury designation and was upgraded to full participation on Friday. He was limited due to a quad injury.
