You can make music with an audio synthesizer, but now you can save it on a record. The PO-80 Record Factory is a turntable that allows you to cut your own records and play them back.
The PO-80 only supports 5-inch records for cutting and recording at 33 and 45rpm. You can play back larger records, but you can't cut them.
The PO-80 is portable and similar to the Pocket Operator line of synthesizer that allow you to make your own sounds. You could plug in other audio sources to the input jack if you wanted to make a vinyl edition of your songs. There is a line-out jack for listening and a second one for power.
It is recommended that you use the mastering tool on the computer built in the company's Computer-1 case to apply an appropriate curve to your audio file so that you don't waste the first of six included discs.
The Record Factory has a bright orange and white plastic body along with separate cutting and playing arms. It was made in collaboration with a Japanese designer who makes cool stuff like this circuit board radio. Suzuki was involved in the creation of a similar record maker. You will get a copy of Gakken magazine in the box with the PO 80.
It is possible to get the retro-tech, Speak and Spell vibe from the PO-80, but it is not the same as the company's Pocket Operators. As you would expect in older electronics and toys, the jack cutout shows its full metal rim.
It is possible to get your own Record Factory from the site. A carrying case, extra cutting heads, and a 10-pack of records are also available.
