Money is one of the most important indicators of success in Hollywood. Some of the choices made leading to that were made for the future of the franchise, even though the general consensus was that it was less successful.
That doesn't make sense, but it's coming from someone who knows. Colin Trevorrow, the film's co-writer and director, explained in an interview with Empire that the decision to not make the core story of the film about dinosaurs was his way of expanding the franchise so that other filmmakers could make more films.
Plots about dinosaurs are what the previous five films were about. Characters in a world in which they coexist with dinosaurs are the focus of this story. If we are going to do it, how can we allow them to tell stories in a world in which dinosaurs exist?

The bigger implication is that the franchise needed to evolve. It was a bad idea to do it in a film that was about dinosaurs. In the next movie, evolve it. It's time to finish this series. There is a reason for that as well. In the same interview, he said that he never thought of his film as the "conclusion of the Jurassic saga" which it was sold as. He didn't know until he was done. Until I saw the marketing, I didn't know that this was the last one. I think it would have been clearer if they had said, "The end of an era" A new dinosaur fan is born every day because regardless of the cynical approach they are going to want to make more money. Kids deserve these movies and young filmmakers grow up on stories like Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz.
Why unite the new characters with the old ones. You are the sixth film in a franchise. The reset of the point is not certain, but we think that the film was a culmination. It is possible that this film walked so that new characters like DeWanda Wise and Mamoudou Athie could fly. When we see it, we'll be convinced.
