The airline is introducing a new premium experience for its most important flyers. There is a brand-new Delta One club in Los Angeles and an overhauled check-in area.

The new gates will give Delta more room to grow in the coming months. The 32A gate will open in late October.

9 new gates are Delta's nicest

Nine new gates, numbered 32A through 38, have been added to Delta's airport presence.

The gates are located just past Gate 33.

There are no detours to get to the new gates. They are attached to the main terminal area.

They are some of the furthest from the main terminal, so be prepared for a walk.

The next set of gates in Terminal 3 will be the most exciting yet. They are the most spacious in the terminal.

The mood lighting and soaring ceilings of the new gate hold room are a real upgrade over the old one.

Great views of the airport's northern runways and ramp area can be seen from the floor-to-ceiling windows.

There are lots of seats in the large hold room. All of the chairs have access to a power outlet in their arms.

Delta's latest motifs include large high-definition display monitors, backlit panelling and snazzy branding.

You will most likely be hoping that your flight leaves this concourse and arrives at the Delta gates.

The concessions in this terminal will be upgraded. There will be a variety of locally-inspired spots, such as Alfred coffee and Native from Chef Nyesha Arrington, all in partnership with Unibail-Rodamco- Westfield.

In with Hudson Nonstop at the terminal. When it opens in the coming months, it will get a big upgrade. You can leave the store without paying if you present your credit card at the entrance.

Several of the other concessions will open in the coming weeks and months as construction continues. Even if it meant opening the concessions a bit later in the process, Delta wanted to get the gates online as soon as possible.

The gate hold room has one set of all- gender restrooms. They have lots of stalls and are bright lit. The sinks and dispensers are not touching.

A water bottle refill station is located just outside of the restrooms, which is a nice feature for travelers who bring their own bottles.

Delta will be opening a new passageway to the baggage claim from the gates. Once this set of escalators opens early next year, you won't need to go through the departures level to get to the bag claim.

Aviation enthusiasts will be drawn to the large windows with great views of planes landing and taking off due to the fact that most travelers will be impressed by the gates themselves.

Taking premium to the next level

Travelers in Delta's signature long-haul business class will be getting a lot of upgrades.

The lounge in Los Angeles will be exclusive to Delta One business class.

There will be a 10,000- square-foot space next to the Sky Club. Delta confirmed on Thursday that it will have a year-round Sky Deck.

There will be two clubs in Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

There are other lounges like this all over the world. We will be the greatest. We will learn from Virgin Atlantic and Air France. Scott Santoro, Delta's vice president of Los Angeles, said in an interview that they would look to do something similar. He said it would be private and delightful.

The carrier is also investing in a more premium curb-to-gate experience for business class travelers.

There will be a brand-new Delta One check-in facility located on the arrivals level of the new west headhouse that will open in the first quarter of 2023.

The arrivals level is being built so that travelers can avoid the traffic on the departures level while also creating a more private atmosphere during check-in.

There will be drinks and snacks in the check-in facility, as well as a direct elevator to the security lanes.

Delta used to offer an exclusive check-in facility for its most premium customers at the airport, and it looks like the new one will be even better.

Santoro told us to keep an eye out for more of these facilities.

More upgrades are coming

Delta has two more major milestone coming to the Sky Way.

The west headhouse will allow the carrier to expand the terminal's check-in area, enlarge the Sky Club's seating area, and offer more expedited access to the security lanes. The carrier's new check-in facility will be located there as well.

Santoro said that it will be completed in the first quarter of next year.

The airline is trying to connect Terminal 3 with the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

ZACH GRIFF/THE POINTS GUY

The Sky Way and TBIT are currently served by around-the-clock buses.

Santoro said that that will go away once the new airside connector is open. It will be the end of Delta's busing operations at the airport.

Santoro is excited that there will be a lot of moving walkways on the departures level. Not going up and down will be the same level. It's going to be walking. It's going to be behind security, which is something we're not used to in LA.

The completion of the project will allow you to walk the entire airport without having to reclear security.

An Olympic celebration — 6 years early

Delta took the wraps off a first-of-its-kind LA28 design that integrates its brand motifs in the logo for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The LA28 Delta logo is expected to appear on some jets as the games draw closer.

Terminal 3 joins the stunning Sky Way

The new gates are connected to the Sky Way terminal, which opened earlier this year.

There is a brand-new departures and arrivals experience for Delta passengers at the Sky Way.

The centralized check-in hall has live flight information, Sky Club capacity indicators, and security wait times.

Delta used to use a dark and cramped check-in facility at Terminal 2, but the floor-to-ceiling windows give this area a more elevated experience.

There are 14 new security lanes with every type of experience available, including Clear, Precheck and SkyPriority, at the departures level.

The Sky Club features two buffet areas, a year-round outdoor Sky Deck with impressive views of the ramp, runways and Hollywood Hills, a coffee grotto, and much more.

There are 12 gates in Terminal 2. Delta decided to keep the legacy Sky Club open for the foreseeable future because they didn't upgrade it as part of the Sky Way project.

The Sky Club in Terminal 2 will be getting a "facelift" over the next few months that will include some updated branding and modernized design. Santoro said that the passenger experience shouldn't be disrupted by the upgrade.

The baggage claim carousels are located on the ground level below the check-in hall.

LAX gets many more Delta lines

As Delta prepares to grow in the city, it has made a number of infrastructure improvements at its Los Angeles hub.

Currently, Delta has 135 daily flights to nearly 50 destinations around the world from the airport.

The airline will add service between Los Angeles and Tahiti in December. An important transcontinental route that hasn't been operated by the airline since August will be reopened by Delta on the same day.

ZACH GRIFF/THE POINTS GUY

Delta will connect the airport with Europe in the summer of 2023, which is a big win for LA. The carrier suspended the service indefinitely due to the Pandemic in March 2020.

The return flights to London and Paris will be operated by the A330neo. The London route hasn't been flown since October 2015 and the Paris route hasn't been operated in over a year.

Delta will restore two of its three trans-Atlantic flights from L.A. by the summer of 2020.

As more gates come online, the carrier is getting ready to upgauge some routes.

We're going to be able to upgauge equipment thanks to the gates. Some of the regional flying will diminish over time. John Fechushak, Delta's operations chief, said in an interview that they will probably go to more mainline flights out of here.

Delta faces fierce competition in Los Angeles as it invests in both its terminal and network. As they try to win the business of the local market, airlines call Los Angeles a hub or focus city.

Delta is hoping that its growing network and state-of-the-art terminal facility will add to the list of reasons to fly to and from Los Angeles.
