The Norwegian energy-security agency said that unknown drones were spotted near offshore installations off the Norwegian coast.

"Operator companies on the Norwegian continental shelf have recently given warnings/notifications of a number of observations concerning unidentified drones/aircraft close to offshore installations," the letter stated.

Natural gas from Russia to Europe is carried on theNord Stream 1 and 2. The four leaks that have been reported since Monday are in the same area as where the drones were seen.

Some Western governments have blamed Russia for the sabotage of the oil and gas lines.

The meeting was held for companies and unions in the oil and gas industry.

Increased drone activity on the NCS is part of the background for enhancing preparedness.

The presence of these craft has grown in September.

The police in Norway are looking into cases where drones had violated the safety zone.

The platforms on the continental shelf are surrounded by a safety zone which extends 500 meters out from the facility and the same amount above its highest point.

In the letter, the agency urged increased vigilance, a review of emergency preparedness measures, and information sharing.

Russia moved forces into Ukraine in February, which led to the cancellation of the planned operation of theNord Stream 2.

The Russian state-controlled gas giant turned off the gas to Europe. Technical problems were said to be the reason for this.

John Brennan, the former CIA director, told CNN that Russia was the most likely culprit in the leaks.

The EU has been accused of being the target of an "act of aggression" by the Ukrainian government.

NATO said Thursday that it was the result of deliberate, reckless, and irresponsible acts. If the damage was caused by sabotage, it would be met with a unified and determined response.

The Kremlin said that state-sponsored terrorism was most likely to blame for the leaks.
