Hyper is recalling its 100W and 65W GaN chargers and 130W battery pack due to reports that they can cause a fire hazard. The company is asking its customers to return the devices in exchange for the recall notice being posted on the USCPSC website.

The battery pack overheating and causing smoke, melting, and property damage were reported by Hyper. There were no injuries caused by defects in the devices. In North America, Hyper sold over 18,200 GaN chargers and over 13,800 battery packs.

Hyper responded to initial reports of overheating with a different approach. At first, the company said that it had removed the 65W and 100W units from sale and was offering to replace them with alternative units, but soon after, the company's CEO got it. Chin downplayed the complaints, admitting that there had been some issues with the early versions of the 65W and 100W versions.

Chin told us in June that they were not issuing a full recall.

When Hyper's GaN chargers were first announced, we were very excited. Both the 100W and 65W versions of the brick have an additional power outlet on top, as well as being able to charge multiple devices at the same time. You can stack them to get even more charging ports, up to a total of 16 bricks, for a maximum of 1600W of charging power.
