According to multiple reports, the New York Mets are going to call up top prospect Francisco Alvarez for this weekend's crucial three-game series against the Atlanta Braves.

The No. 4 overall prospect in the first half of the year was Alvarez.

He was signed as an international free agent out of Venezuela and has risen through the Mets minor league system. He slashed.260/.374/.500 with 27 home runs this season, while splitting time between Double-A and Triple-A Syracuse.

While he missed three weeks in August with a right ankle injury, he finished the minor league season with a.372 batting average and three home runs.

He hit.315 with a 1.019 OPS against left-handed pitchers this season, so the Mets could use him as a designated hitter.

The Mets hold a one-game lead over the Braves in the NL East.

El Extrabase reported that Alvarez is going to be called up.
