MLB Rumors: Mets' No. 1 Prospect Francisco Álvarez Called Up Ahead of Playoffs

According to the New York Post, Francisco lvarez has been called up by the New York Mets.

The Mets' top prospect is lvarez. Sherman said that he has a chance to hit against left-handed pitchers in the playoffs.

Since the trade deadline, the Mets have mostly split time between the two designated hitters.

He slashed.257/.380/.493 with 17 home runs and 50 runs scored against right-handed pitchers. Ruf is better against left-handed pitchers, hitting.322 with nine home runs and 27RBI.

The Double-A and Triple-A affiliates of the New York Mets were split by lvarez. He hit.260/.374/.500 with 27 home runs and 78RBI in 112 games.

In 45 games with Syracuse, lvarez hit.234/.382/.443 with nine home runs and 31RBI.

lvarez signed with the Mets in July of last year. In addition to being New York's top prospect, he is also the top-ranked prospect in all of baseball.

The Mets are the team to beat in the NL East and are expected to make a run in the playoffs. The Atlanta Braves are still in the running for the division title with a 97-59 record.

The Mets and Braves will play a three-game series in Atlanta on Friday and Saturday. The New York Mets will host the Washington Nationals.
