Tua Tagovailoa was taken to the hospital with head and neck injuries after he was sacked in the second quarter.
Tagovailoa hit the back of his head on the ground when he was sacked, and his arms seemed to seize up almost immediately. He was taken away on a stretcher after remaining on the field for a short time.
Shortly before halftime, the Dolphins said that he was conscious and moving his limbs at the hospital.
As he was taken off, the entire sideline gathered around.
After hitting his head on the ground in the first half, Tagovailoa was evaluated for a concussion and had to leave the game. The team initially listed him as questionable to return due to a head injury, but later said it was a back injury that caused him to fall. After returning to the game, Tagovailoa said that he passed all his evaluations.
The National Football League Players Association requested a review of the league's concussion protocols after Tagovailoa returned to the game. The health of the players is something that the coach of the Dolphins does not take lightly and that the team would comply with any review or investigation.
I think our players know more about certain things than anyone else. One of the things that I have been called emotional about is player health. It was something that we wouldn't have moved forward in the direction we did had there been any red flags.
In Tagovailoa's place, Teddy Bridgewater entered the game, and the Dolphins also made a rookies active for the first time in their careers.
