The Philadelphia 76ers' center is an American citizen.

Two weeks ago he was sworn in as a citizen. The NBA scoring champion and Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center said his family was a big factor in his decision.

"I've been here for a long time," he said. My son is a US citizen. It is a blessing to be an American. I asked why not.

He has French citizenship as well as being a college basketball player. It's too early to think about which country he might represent in international basketball.

Last season, the 28-year-old averaged a career best 30.6 points. Philadelphia was able to reach the Eastern Conference semifinals for the second year in a row because of the 7 footer. Despite playing with injuries, he averaged 23.6 points and 10.7 rebound in the playoffs.

During the pre-game introductions at 76ers home games last season, it was announced that he was from Kansas, but later he was introduced from Africa. He may try to say something.

He said they were going to say American and French.
