  • Google has been working on ways to improve messaging between Android devices and iPhones.
  • Some users are noticing they can send reactions to SMS messages, with varying degrees of success.
  • Google previously enabled reaction translations with Android on the receiving end.

The battle to get Apple to adopt RCS on iMessage seems to be an uphill one, as evidenced by the fact that the company has made changes to their Messages app for the iPhone. The latest update may annoy some iPhone users, despite Apple's reluctance.

A user on the site says they have the ability to send a message reaction to a message from an Apple device. According to the original poster, the recipient receives a text in the form of "x person liked "text", which is the method that Google Messages previously used.

The user said that they too can use the new version of the message on their phone.

The message will look like "On my way" if you respond with a thumbs up.

It's up to Apple to put at least some effort into adding better cross-messaging support with Android users, as it appears that it may not be the case when reactions are sent to Apple's messaging service. This would be a good way to annoy people until Apple does something about it.

One user claims that most of their friends receive emoji reactions, meaning there are some mixed results, and others point out that the reaction translations should be able to handle it.

The solution isn't perfect yet, but it is another step in the right direction. It's likely a server-side push will take some time to arrive for everyone, even though the feature doesn't appear to be widely available, even among users on the search giant's messaging service.
