  • Google announced the Stadia service will be ending next year on Jan. 18, 2023.
  • Players will have access to their game libraries until the date.
  • Google will be refunding all Stadia hardware and software purchases.

The Stadia cloud gaming streaming service was launched three years ago.

After thanking dedicated players and creators, Phil Harrison said that the platform had not gained traction with users that they expected. According to Harrison, the gaming service will end on January 18, 2023.

All purchases made through the Stadia store will be refunds, according to Harrison. The players will be able to complete their final play sessions through January 18, 2023. Most of the refunds are expected to be done by mid-January.

The underlying Stadia tech will be used at other parts of the company and will also be made available for industry partners.

The company shut down its first-party games studio in February of 2021. According to a report earlier this year, the gaming side of the platform was deprioritized by the company. It announced a B2B offering for white-label partners called Immersive Stream for Games, where companies could use the Stadia tech to stream games without using the Stadia name.
