According to multiple outlets, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas will testify to the House January 6 Committee Thursday, reversing her previous refusal to do so.
CNN is reporting that Thomas will testify in person to the committee Thursday morning.
When asked if she had spoken with her husband about the election being stolen, Thomas only said, "Thank you for your question, I look forward to answering members."
Thomas was asked to testify in June after it was reported that she sent emails to a Trump lawyer in order to help him challenge the results.
After initially suggesting she would testify, Thomas then refused, with her attorney sending an eight-page letter to the committee arguing lawmakers didn't have a sufficient basis to speak with her.
The chair of the committee said Wednesday that she would testify this week.
Lawmakers hope to learn everything she knows about the post- election period, and that her testimony adds to the body of knowledge about what happened on January 6.
Thompson said last week that they think it's important to speak to Thomas because she likes a lot of other witnesses who came forward.
Thomas has denied that she influenced her husband's work as a justice. In his letter to the committee, Paoletta criticized its members for being biased against Thomas and her husband and denied allegations that Thomas was personally involved with attempts to overturn the election. The House committee was supposed to hold its first public hearing in months on Wednesday, but was postponed due to Hurricane Ian. After the hearings are over, the committee will issue a final report detailing its findings, though it is not clear when that will be.
The New York Times reported in March that the Republicans on the committee objected to asking Thomas to testify before the emails were reported. According to the Times, committee members believed that she was a distraction from more important targets, so they resisted going after Thomas.
As her husband considered lawsuits challenging the election results at the Supreme Court, Thomas was involved in a wide-ranging effort to overturn the 2020 election.
