The results of the prime minister election in Italy last week were used by President Biden as a warning to the United States.

At a private residence in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night, Biden said that he had seen what had happened in Italy in the election. You're watching what's happening around the world. You can't be optimistic about what's happening here, either.

The Brothers of Italy will be the first far-right party in Italy since World War II. The party that received the most votes will be tasked with forming a coalition government next month. She will be the country's first female premier.

The leader of European revanchism is Hungarian leader Viktor Orbn. Many Americans see Meloni as a natural ally because of his agenda. The senator from Arkansas said that America is stronger when Italy is free.

Europe's far- right celebrated her victory. Marine Le Pen praised Meloni for opposing the threats of an anti-democratic and arrogant EU. In Spain, Santiago Abascal, the leader of the country's hard-right Vox opposition party, said that Meloni has shown the way for a proud and free Europe that can cooperate on behalf of everyone's security and prosperity.

Praise for Meloni can be seen as confirmation of Biden's argument that authoritarianism is becoming increasingly attractive as many democracies embrace rancor and nationalism. He acknowledged that it was difficult to reach a consensus in a short period of time.

The president lamented the disappearance of Republicans like Bob Dole and John McCain, who he said could maintain conservative principles without trying to destroy American democracy.

For several months, Biden has been making the case that the Republican Party has been captured by the so-called "MAGA Republicans". Biden compared the ideology of Trump's movement to that of "semi-fascism", noting its refusal to accept the results of the last presidential election.

If Republican governors and state legislators gained more power, they could undermine the integrity of elections in the future.

The GOP is a different breed of cat, Biden said, defending his earlier remarks about the Republican Party's fascistic impulses and describing the economic proposals of Sen. Rick Scott and Ron Johnson as radical measures meant to shred social safety net programs.

He suggested that returning either or both chambers of Congress to Republican control would lead to the kind of anti-democratic backslide he and other liberals believe awaits Italy.

Biden said that they need to win. It's obvious that we need to keep control of the Congress. The ringing of Biden's phone interrupted his speech. He made a joke that Trump was making a call.
