The low-end 6.7-inch device was supposed to be called the "iPhone 14 Max" on Apple's website, but the company changed its mind at the last minute.

In two instances on the company's website, Apple refers to the phone as the "iPhone 14 Max." The image of the iPhone 14 Plus models in five colors is referred to as "iPhone 14-Max-colors" in a support document.

On a page that provides compliance and regulatory information for the company's products, Apple clearly lists " iPhone 14 Max" with the iPhone 14 Plus model number, alongside the other products.

The bigger low-end model in the lineup was referred to as the iPhone 14 Max. It was not until a week before Apple's iPhone launch event that a leak suggested it would be called the iPhone 14 Plus.

The 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have the same features and cameras, but the larger model has a bigger screen and battery. It's possible that Apple thought the Plus name was better for a larger device that offered all the same features as the smaller version. Customers will be able to pre-order the iPhone 14 Plus on Friday, October 7.
