Florida Reporter Wraps Mic In Condom: 'Safe Hurricane Reporting'

Journalists need to protect themselves and their gear when reporting on hurricanes.

A savvy reporter caught the attention of viewers on Wednesday for reporting on Hurricane Ian with a condom over her microphone

WBBH-TV's Kyla Galer cleared the air after social media users wondered what she was posting.

Galer said that it was what you thought it was. There is a condom. The gear is protected by it. We can't use the mics. There is a lot of precipitation. We need to put a condom on the microphone.

Jeff Butera of WZVN-TV in Naples helped his colleague ask questions about the technique.

He joked that they practice safe Hurricane Reporting. It's a condom. It's nothing better than waterproofing a microphone.
