Belichick has 1 response for all Mac Jones questions (0:35)

A refrain of "day by day" was given by Bill Belichick when he was asked about Mac Jones.

3:14 PM ET

After saying that Mac Jones wouldn't practice Wednesday, and that he was making a lot of progress in the last 48 hours, he turned to a news conference in which he repeated "on to Cincinnati" eight times.

After being bombarded with questions about the status of Jones, who injured his ankle on Sunday and is likely to be out for at least a couple of weeks, the coach gave the same answer.

Is Jones going to start against the Packers?

Take it one day at a time.

Jones might have a procedure to help his recovery.

"Week by week." It's a day. It was done by. He paused between the words. The plan is in place. It's a day. It was done by. It's a day.

Are the two teams on the same page on what to do next?

I don't know what the nature of the question is, but he's getting better every day. We won't know how it goes. It's a day. It was done by. It's a day.

Is he injured his ankle?

It's a day. It was done by. It's a day. I don't know what I look like a doctor. Is that a doctor of orthopedics? I'm not sure. Talk to the doctors.

What are the medical experts saying to you?

"Week by week." We will evaluate him on a daily basis. I don't know what difference it makes to me. Do you think I'm going to see the results of the exam? My job is not that of that one.

They talk to you about it.

Yes." Day by day. It is getting better. Will we see how it is tomorrow? It's not as bad as it was yesterday. We're going to see what it is.

Reporters looked at notes to see how many times the coach said "day by day" by the end of the news conference.

The answer was twelve.
