Perk has lofty expectations for Zion (2:11)

Perkins expects Zion to do well this year. There are two words in this sentence.

3:38 PM ET

The New Orleans Pelicans opened training camp with two practices in the morning and one in the evening.

The morning session was light. The scrimmage portion of the evening session was going to be Zion's first intense 5-on-5 work in over a year.

One would think someone would have some rust in that situation, but that's not the case.

Willie Green said that Z looked great. His strength, his speed, that's what he has." The scrimmage was dominated by him.

As much as he could work out during the off-season, it was hard to prepare for 5-on-5 work against top players.

Green said that his force was more important than anything else. He got down the floor fast. He made decisions after catching the ball. Whether it was a goal or not. It was amazing to see.

He was able to take full advantage of the work that he was able to do.

Nance said that he looked like Z. He hasn't played basketball for a long time. It's not like nobody is expecting that right away, but I'm pretty sure it looks good. It will take time for everyone to get used to him. It's going to take him a while to get used to everyone.

In the locker room after the game, Nance asked if he had missed a shot. He didn't think about it.

Nance said that he looked like the same thing. I'm very pleased to say the least.

Since he was injured last season, several players have not had a chance to play with him, even though Nance and Green have faced him before.

The rookies from last year's class got their first look at the young talent.

I'm strong." Strong. Murphy said that the player was ready to play. I will make that statement. I have nothing else to say.

It didn't seem like he missed a lot of time.

Z is a special player. We can adapt to him. He does not need the ball immediately. He'll get there. He did a great job adapting. He looked like he had been playing with us for a while.
