I have good news for you if you have been looking for a smart speaker that could do more than just play music and set a timer. It's going to be used as an extension for your Eero mesh wi-fi network.

The ability to push your wi-fi a few hundred feet further around your home and make it easier to connect smart home devices like outdoor cameras and that streaming media stick in the spare bedroom is a feature of Amazon's new echo dot and echo dot with clock speakers

The feature is coming to the fourth-gen Echo speakers on October 20th and to all fourth-gen Echo Dot models via a software update in the coming months, according to Nick Weaver, CEO and co- founder of Eero.

Eero, which is owned by Amazon, also announced a new internet backup service for its system, which will be included in the Eero Plus subscription service.

The Eero Built-In feature will be free to use on compatible Echo speakers. It shouldn't be hard to expand the coverage and range of an existing Eero network.

It is possible to add up to 1,000 square feet of coverage per device to an existing Eero network, with speeds of up to 100 Mbps, more than enough to stream in 4k or take an HD video call.

The technology uses the dual-band radios in the speakers to find the strongest connection and then extend it. He said that they figured out how to take the Eero TrueMesh and put it in the chips. It is a very constrained device, so there is a lot of Optimization here to deliver 100 Mbps of performance.

They won't give the same speed and performance as an Eero network, but they will give you more coverage for your devices.

Weaver said that the compatible models provide comparable performance, but they are not as good as adding another Eero access point. They won't give the same speed and performance as an Eero network, but they will give you more coverage for your devices.

The Eero network needs to be linked to an Amazon account in order to work. If you don't want them to be extenders, you can turn them on and off on their own. If you have two Echo Dots being used as a stereo pair, they can't also be wi-fi extenders, so you have to choose

Weaver says there is a bit of lag with the echo extenders, but he says it is minimal.

The feature is only available on the fifth-gen Dots that were announced today and will be coming to the fourth-gen Echo Dots. It isn't on a smart display. The Eero Built-In program will be expanded in the future.

Amazon wants to have its virtual assistant-powered smart speaker in every room of your home.

Eero adds backup internet feature to its mesh Wi-Fi system

The internet backup feature that Eero launched last year with the Ring Alarm Pro is going to be included in all of the company's systems. When the primary internet goes down, this allows you to connect an Eero network to a backup internet source, such as a mobile phone hot spot.

When the main service goes offline, the backup system will connect to any backup source you choose. When the primary service returns, it should switch back to normal. There are multiple backup sources you can choose from.

If you want to have everything in the home stay connected, you can choose which devices will use the backup.

In the coming months, Eero internet backup will be available to select customers. Eero Plus costs either $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year and includes advanced parental controls, network insights, and DDNS.
