Mo Farah has pulled out of the London Marathon due to a hip injury.
The 39-year-old hadn't run a full marathon in a year.
He won the Big Half in London earlier this month as part of his preparations.
"It's really disappointing, I've done everything I can to compete, but it hasn't proved enough", said Britain's Mo Farah.
"I've been training really hard over the past few months and I was feeling pretty confident about being able to put in a good performance," said Farah.
Over the last 10 days, I have been feeling pain in my hip. I tried everything I could to be on the start line but it wasn't enough to compete.
He hopes to return to the race in April 2023, but he is disappointed that he won't be racing in front of his fans.
In addition to his third-place finish in the London Marathon in 2018, he has also competed in three other London Marathons.
His time of 2 hours 5 minutes 11 seconds at the Chicago Marathon is a British record.
Hugh Brasher, event director of the London Marathon, said that they were so sorry that Mo wasn't fit to run. We wish him a quick recovery and hope to see him run the London Marathon in April of 2023.
After three years of focusing on the marathon, Mo Farah returned to the track in 2020 but failed to make the Olympics.
Ellis Cross beat him at the London 10,000 in May as he returned to competition after an 11-month absence.
