Barcelona's asset sales in the summer to fund signings were not fair, and the president of Paris Saint-Germain suggested that they should be investigated by the European soccer body.

The sale of stakes in their domestic television rights and the creation of an in-house production company allowed them to spend more than 150m on the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde. The five other players were free agents.

This is unfair? It's not right. Is it legal. Al-Khelaifi said in an interview that he wasn't sure.

Others will follow suit if they are allowed. They have their own financial rules. They're going to look at every single thing.

The assets were sold to comply with the regulations of the Spanish league.

They increased their league-imposed annual spending limit from minus 144m to over 600m by selling off 25% of their LaLiga media rights.

While LaLiga have cleared the funding, Al-Khelaifi's comments hint that the business may be in violation of the law.

During a speech to European club bosses on Friday, Al-Khelaifi said that he didn't like the way Barcelona played.

The new financial-sustainability rules are positive. We need to be cautious. Debt and equity deals are unsustainable.

In the last publicly available accounts, the gross debt was over 1 billion.

The president of Paris Saint-Germain is also the chairman of the European Club Association, chairman of beIN Media Group, and a member of the executive committee of the European club association.

Barcelona were not punished for overspending because they were not among the eight clubs punished by the European soccer body.

The Catalan club was one of 19 other clubs that met the break-even standard only on the basis of technicality. They have been put on a watch list.

Ahead of the return of club football, Barcelona are facing a defensive injury crisis.

Ronald Araujo will be out of the World Cup for up to three months after he had surgery on his thigh.

Jules Kounde is facing several weeks on the sideline after picking up an injury while playing for France, while the same injury has also been reported by Barcelona.

Three of the four players who have played right-back this season -- Kounde and Araujo among them -- will be out for up to four weeks because of the injury to Bellerin.

Sergi Roberto is one of the four players. He missed the win over Elche due to a knock, but is back in training and could play on Saturday.

Last week, Frenkie and Memphis were injured while on international duty.
