The body of Japan's former prime minister, who was assassinated in July while campaigning, was buried today.

Like Queen Elizabeth II, Abe was laid to rest in a state funeral attended by international leaders.

The cost of the Queen's funeral was not disclosed by the UK government. A Japanese government spokesman said that Abe had $12 million in his bank account.

According to the report, security accounted for half of the costs, with the other third going into hosting 700 foreign guests.

The Japanese public is divided about Abe’s legacy

The price for Abe's funeral is making people angry in Japan. According to a survey by Japan's Kyodo news agency, 70% of respondents think the government is spending too much.

Not everyone in Japan is happy to pay for Abe's funeral.

Abe was unpopular in Japan. His death and funeral became a referendum on his administration. His critics have used the occasion to bring up scandals and controversial decisions during his time in office.

His ties to the Unification Church have been revealed by his assassination. The fringe religious group, which Abe supported but was not a member of, is accused of shady dealings with politicians, including the mother of the man who assassinated the former prime minister.

Yamagami is being celebrated as an antihero because of the backlash against Abe. Yamagami's uncle is getting gifts for him while he is in jail.
