The commissioner resigned last week after pictures of him in a Ku Klux Klan outfit began to circulate.

Several people told Young that the pictures were of Jeff Moore. Moore did not deny that he was the person in the pictures.

He didn't deny at all. Young said in an interview that he didn't Refuted anything when he saw the pictures. Young is a black person. I told him that he needed to quit.

In early August, Moore was appointed to serve as Commissioner. Moore resigned last week, but the governor's office didn't know why.

Taryn Fenske, the communications director for the governor, said that Jeff submitted his resignation last week.

Moore said on Monday that he was in the middle of preparing for Hurricane Ian. He didn't respond to many requests for comment.

A group of people from the county went to Young's desk to get the pictures.

He said that he had never seen them before. It was a costume, he said.

The Black population of the county is one of the highest in the state. Moore was the only non- Black member of the commission.

The president of the NAACP chapter in the state of Florida said he was not surprised by the appointment. Even if they didn't know about the picture, it's the kind of person he would pick.
