The Stage Manager feature has been added to the new iPad Pro models. We decided to try it out on an older iPad Pro because Apple told us that it didn't work well on non M1 iPad.

Stage Manager was only available on the M1 iPad Pro and the M1 iPad Air, Apple's newest iPad from 2021. Problems with Stage Manager were experienced by older iPad Pro models.
In a statement today, Apple said it was able to figure out a way to bring Stage Manager to iPad Pro models with the A12Z and A12X chips. Stage Manager can be used on the iPad, but it won't have access to the external display integration.
External display support for iPadOS 16.1 will only be available for M1 iPad models when it returns later this year. Stage Manager is not used in the full implementation of the iPad Pro models.
Stage Manager on the device is limited to four apps at a time, while with an external display, up to eight can be opened. The M1 iPad Pro was quicker than the Stage Manager in our side-by-side testing.
The launch of iPadOS 16 was delayed because it was buggy and there were complaints about its features. A few weeks ago it was not as smooth as it is now.
