After spending the summer rehabbing in Los Angeles and seeking different opinions from knee specialists, Bulls guard Lonzo Ball said he still can't run or jump without feeling pain in his left knee, which is why he is scheduled to have another knee surgery on Wednesday.

During a video call with reporters on Tuesday, Ball said that there was a point when they would warm up and that it would be fine. I couldn't do it when I got to actual basketball activities. This is what we have to deal with. We think surgery is the best option.

While Ball was in L.A., the Bulls held their first team practice of the season. He would return to Chicago to be with the team for his rehabilitation.

This will be his third surgery and he doesn't want to rush anything.

The Bulls said Ball will be out for four to six weeks after his surgery, but he and the team didn't give a timetable for his return. Ball didn't think his knee would keep him out of the entire season.

Ball said that it would be the worst-case scenario. I'm at a point where I can't get back out there until I'm ready to play. I will have the jersey back on when that day arrives.

Ball's activities on the basketball court have been limited and he is having issues walking up stairs. Doctors, the team and Ball were surprised by his long-term problems with his knee. This week's surgery was more about identifying the issues than fixing them.

They're going in to see what it is. It's clear that there's something that's not right because it's not showing up on the magnetic resonance. Whatever needs to be done is going to be done.

I've never felt pain like this or been able to ramp up but never fully, so it's definitely a unique situation. We are all trying to figure out what it is. We all agreed that it was time for surgery.
