The Bank of Canada acknowledged last week that the pace of price increases was too high despite the fact that Canada's headline inflation was headed in the right direction.

The inflation rate fell for the second month in a row in August to an annual rate of 7.0 per cent, which is down from July's reading of 7.6 per cent. Last week, Statistics Canada said that the deceleration in the consumer price index was the largest since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The agency said that the increase in the price of groceries was the result of extreme weather, higher input costs and the disruption of supply chains caused by Russia's invasion of Ukrainian.

The prices of meat, dairy, baked goods, and fresh fruit have gone up.
