There are many wildlife species thriving in Europe thanks to protection.

Some of the strongest recoveries have been seen by grey wolves, grey seals, and European bison.

A report looked at 50 European species.

It was compiled by the Zoological Society of London.

The European Wildlife Comeback Report is based on previous research. The focus is on species that have recovered over the past 50 years.

The report sheds light on which European wildlife species are doing well and why.

We can maximize wildlife comeback by learning from the successes. The report shows that we need to work hard to keep the recovery going and to allow more species to benefit from it.

According to the report, grey wolves are a great success story. At the end of the 18th century, they were found in most areas of Europe. According to the report, the number of people in Europe increased by over 1,700% between 1966 and 2016 Some Nordic countries allow the slaughter of wolves in order to protect their animals.

Great white egrets, barnacle geese, griffon vulture, and Dalmatian pelicans are some of the bird species that are recovering well. Legal protections made through the EU Birds and Habitats Directives are credited by Rewilding Europe.

Some of the species weren't on the increase. According to the report, the ringed seal's breeding habitat has declined due to less ice cover.

The findings give grounds for hope according to the lead author of the report.

She said that the report gave cause for optimism and showed that wildlife can recover.
