When the Dallas Cowboys take on the Washington Commanders in the fourth week of the season, there is a chance that quarterback Dak Prescott will come back from a thumb injury.
He said he could return in a couple of weeks and that Week 4 is a possibility.
Before Monday night's game against the New York Giants, it was reported that the stitches would be removed from the quarterback's injured thumb.
His return to action is dependent on his grip strength but he is still making progress.
Cooper Rush threw for 235 yards and a touchdown in a win over the CincinnatiBengals.
Jerry Jones told reporters that he wanted to see the backup play so well that he could create a quarterback controversy once the incumbent was healthy again.
Yes, I would. It's absolutely true. It means we would have won. If he comes in and plays as well as Prescott did, what would it be like? Did you play that well over the next two games? I would go to New York to get that.

"Well, of course we want Dak to be here next week. That's the thing. You do. But Dak and I want Rush to lead the team to a victory here and get another win and get another win. That's the only way to look at it. Looking back when Dak was playing instead of Tony [Romo], it was game by game. It wasn't the long look we had after two months to look back. It was actually play by play, almost series by series. So do I think that it's possible for Rush to come in here and play at a level to win games the way Prescott did when he took over for Romo? Yes I do. Yes I do. I certainly think that's possible."
That led to a flurry of headlines and conversations. Nobody thinks Rush would replace the man in the second year of the contract. Rush could become a valuable trade chip for the Cowboys if he plays well.
McCarthy said that the job of the quarterback was never in danger.
He told reporters that he was trying to say this with a straight face. It's about winning, like anything else. We don't care about anything else. There is no controversy about quarterbacks. He is our starter.
He said that you need to be able to decipher between Jerry and GM. He can do that at any time. You need to do a better job of that. It's time to get to work.
The question is when the man will come back. According to Ian Rapoport, the earliest possible return date is October 16.
It looks like he could be back on the field sooner.
