After his emotional reaction to his team's 21-19 loss to the Miami Dolphins went viral, the Buffalo Bills' offensive line coach said that he would learn from it and correct it.
The Bills lost their first game of the year in Miami despite having the ball at their own 23 yard line with less than a minute to play. The clock ran off when Josh Allen connected with a wide receiver who appeared to have the chance to run out of bounds, but he said he was trying to get into the end zone.
If I could take it back, I would probably just go up field, get down, and fight another down.
After time expired, he was shown on the CBS broadcast slamming his headset, hat and tablets into the desk and crumpling the papers in front of him.
"I'm up in the box, I'm watching my guys down there just give us everything they possibly have in 'em with effort and from start to finish, playing 90 something snaps in the game." It was a playoff atmosphere, a lot of credit to the Miami Dolphins, and obviously, we weren't on the winning end of it, so it's frustrating that I reacted that way.
"We're all on this to win football games for the Bills, for our fans, and we're gonna give them everything we got, but it's something I'm gonna learn from."
After taking over for Brian Daboll at the New York Giants, Dorsey is in his first season as an OC. The former University of Miami quarterback spent the previous three seasons as the Bills' quarterback coach and the previous year as the Carolina Panther's quarterback coach.
The Bills coach spoke to the man about his feelings on Monday.
"I think it's something that A, we've got to keep our composure and he's well aware of that and knows that and I love the fact that he cares that much about doing his job and putting his players in a position to be successful." That shows how hard he works at it and how important it is to him. It's important that we as leaders keep our cool and that we teach our players how to do that.
The Bills got the ball back after a free kick after the Dolphins' Thomas Morstead kicked the ball into his teammate. Despite running 90 offensive plays, the Bills were unable to win the game despite winning the time of possession battle and picking up 31 first downs to Miami's 15. In the red zone, finishing drives was a problem, as well as mismanaging offensive drives at the end of both halves proved important.
"We're all human, I'm human, as we saw," he said. I will make mistakes just like those guys. How do we recover from those mistakes? How do we keep progressing and grow as a team?
The loss was caused by injuries and other factors. The Bills went into the game against Miami down starters due to injury, and at least eight additional players suffered some sort of injury during the contest, which saw multiple Buffalo players dealing with heat- related issues.
Christian Benford broke his hand in the game and is out for the rest of the season. The sixth-round pick will have surgery Tuesday and will be out for a few weeks. Benford, who helped on special teams despite the injury, was replaced by a practice squad player.
The Bills top corner is on the reserve/PUP list with a torn knee cap. Adding to the roster could be a result of Buffalo's need at the corner.
We like to start inside the building. The guys are hard at work and developing. We will go outside if the need arises. We will look at it.
While All Pro safety Jordan Poyer missed Week 3 with a foot injury, he is not the only one who is out for the season.
Allen went to the X-ray room at Hard Rock Stadium, but he was reassured that he was fine by his coach. The quarterback was sacked four times and contacted 17 times, second-most in the NFL this week, only to the Washington Commanders' quarterback. Allen didn't benefit from the injuries the offensive line is dealing with.
The starting right guard is in concussion protocol and the backup is out for the rest of the season. Right tackle Spencer Brown and backup center Greg Van Roten both left the game early due to heat, while starting centerMitch Morse missed the game with an elbow injury.
Jake Kumerow is out for a week with an ankle injury.
