The Atlanta Braves will be known as the "upset kings of October" for their World Series win in 2021, as President Joe Biden welcomed them to the White House.

Biden said the series was an unstoppable, joyful run. With just over a week left before the regular season ends and the playoffs begin, the team received its White House victory visit. The Braves are 112 games out of the lead. Terry McGuirk hoped they would return to the White House soon.

The Braves played barely at.500 in August of 2011. They began to win. They were able to win the World Series in six games over the Astros.

Biden said their win was one of the greatest comebacks.

The team has been a part of American history for over 150 years. Everyone counted you out. I know what it's like to be counted out.

The players lined up behind Biden, grinning and waving to the crowd, but one who hasn't been on the team in nearly 50 years, and who died last year, was the most talked about player.

On April 8, 1974, Hammerin' Hank dethroned Babe Ruth with a home run to center field. He was one of the most famous players for Atlanta and in baseball history, a vocal and clear-eyed chronicler of the many hardship thrown his way, from the poverty and segregation of his Alabama youth to the racist threats he faced during his pursuit of one of America's most hallowed records He passed away in January 2021.

The team is defined by the courage of Hank.

McGuirk said that one of the few black executives in baseball was watching over them.

He would have been with us from the beginning if he were here.

The president often honors college and professional athletes with a White House ceremony in which he pays tribute to their talent, poses for photos and gives them a jersey.

The previous administration made those visits very high priority. Many athletes took issue with the policies of the president.

The tradition seems to have returned under Biden. At the White House, he has hosted NBA and Super Bowl winning teams. Biden joked about his wife's loyalties.

He said that she is convinced that she knows more about sports than any other person. He said that he didn't want to be nice to the Atlanta team because they just beat the Philadelphia team.
