He doesn't plan on giving up racing completely, but his career is over.

The seven-time NASCAR champion is stepping away from a full-time schedule and will only race in "bucket list" events.

It has been an interesting process to feel fulfilled with the experience and then try to make a decision. There is a lot of planning going on with the children. We have thought about living abroad for a year or two. We love Colorado and want to spend more time there, and there's so much swirling personally and professionally that I just wanted to take some time and make the decision not on the basis of a positive or negative experience on the racetrack.

After the 2020 season, he retired from NASCAR. He didn't have much success in the last two years he was racing in the Indy 500. Over the last two years, the driver had only one top five finish and two top 10s.

I know what it takes to do a full schedule, but I don't have that in me. I can't commit myself to a full season because I don't have that passion.

Johnson competed in the Indianapolis 500 for the first time. The Double, which sees a driver race in both NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 and the Indy 500 on the same day, is one event that keeps Johnson interested.

Since retiring from NASCAR in 2020, Johnson has not competed in the series, but he is open to a possible return.
