The suggestion was made because of the energy shortage and climate protection reasons.
Reducing Christmas lighting to one illuminated tree is one solution.
Resch said that the private lighting sector alone consumes more than 600 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which is as much as a medium-sized city with 400,000 inhabitants.
Resch told Insider that this Christmas could be very special if people make conscious decisions to give up things.
