Until a couple of months ago, they had never been in the same room, but they are now.

It was like they were brothers from the beginning when they were at a house in Dallas to film a commercial.

Pearson said that nobody kept track of time because they were having a good time.

It's because we swim in the same water. The expectations come with 88. We all sat there and looked at CeeDee.

You do know what's coming? Are you aware of this responsibility? Pressure for others is what it is. It's a promise we can't refuse. You are in the middle of everything. Pressure is what comes through for a lot of people. It's home for 88's.

Lamb is carrying the Cowboys' legacy.

• Can Daboll save QB Jones' career?

• Imagine Rodgers at 45

• St. Brown not content with recognition

• Another dynamic RB duo for Jaguars?

The number 88 has been passed down from one great wide receiver to the next for the Cowboys.

Pearson said that the Cowboys don't rate any other numbers like this. There are two guys in the hall of fame. It's special to keep it for the next guy. The Cowboys aren't the only ones. Think about the teams that aren't in the same league. No other team does that.

It's amazing how deep it is. Nobody else does it that way.

Pearson had a Hall of Fame career as a wide receiver after playing college football.

He earned his way into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after winning three Super Bowls.

In 2010, the Cowboys traded up in the first round to get Bryant, and he was one of the most dynamic players in the league.

The Cowboys didn't think Lamb would be available in the first round in 2020. Lamb has produced more receiving yards in his first two seasons in Dallas than any other player.

"It's literally become a part of me" Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb on legacy of wearing No. 88

The boys don't retire numbers.

Since Roger Staubach's career ended, nobody has worn his number. No one has worn No. 8 since Aikman or Smith. Bob Lilly has worn his number in preseason games but never in a regular season game.

The Cowboys have had 12 different players wear No. 88, but the receiver has made it theirs.

Some exceptions have been made. It was worn by Harris from 2000 to 2001 It was worn by Antonio Bryant after he was picked in the second round. Then there was someone else.

The managing partner of 7 Pillars in Plano, Texas is the president and CEO of Elite Dental Alliance.

He wore the same number in 2005.

He joked that one of these things is not the same as the other.

The number 49 was worn by Pierce in 2004. He asked to switch to No. 88 because it was the jersey he wore in college.

When he asked for the number, he probably wasn't aware of it. I don't know if I would ask now. There is a very special number. The Dallas area has a lot of jerseys. They don't say "Pierce" on them. Some people say 'Bryant,' which is close to Brett.

When Jerry Jones became aware of the significance, he was the owner and general manager of the Cowboys. He and Staubach sat in a suite at Texas Stadium to watch the Cowboys play the Giants.

Jones said thatRoger talked about 88 there. I don't think of that with the other teams.

"85 didn't sound right. 87? Of course not," Drew Pearson said. "But 88 had a ring to it." Focus on Sport/Getty Images

PEARSON WORENO. is located at PEARSON WORENO. There are 3 at this location. He wore the same number in both home and away games.

What's the reason?

Pearson said that the uniforms company messed up the numbers.

He was assigned 13 when he joined the Cowboys. Harvey Martin and Randy White shared the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award.

Every week, pick props for the football players. If you rack up more wins than Mike, you can win $20K. Pick your favorites.

I told Harvey that they got me. I'm going to be cut. Pearson said that they gave him 13 I fumbled a punt in the third quarter of the preseason game at the LA Coliseum. That was the beginning of my career as a football player.

The Cowboys didn't let Pearson go. He was able to pick a number in the 80s when he was on the roster. He could have chosen either of those.

It did not sound right. Are you talking about 87? Pearson said of course not. There was a ring to it.

He had 7,822 yards and 67 touchdown catches in 11 seasons. He was selected to the All-Pro team three times. He was a member of the 1970s All-Decade Team. He was on the receiving end of one of the most famous plays in the history of the National Football League, the "Hail Mary", from Roger Staubach in 1975.

Bryant thought he was a monster.

Wearing Drew Pearson's No. 88 was personal for Michael Irvin, who wore No. 47 at the University of Miami. His father, Walter, was a Dallas Cowboys fan and loved Pearson. Icon Sportswire

No one wore the number from 1984 to 1987 Irvin came in. The year 88. Pearson was working for a television station in Dallas when the Cowboys took Irvin in the first round.

Pearson caught him off the airplane after interviewing him. They want me to wear 88, after he hugged me and kissed me, he said. Is it okay. I told Michael that it wasn't mine. Do more than I did when I wore it. We have something going.

He wore Pearson's number for personal reasons. Walter was a Cowboys fan. Walter didn't get to see his son play in college or professionally after he died.

I called my sister Janet when I got 88 and she said she couldn't believe it. As much as dad loved Drew, he loved the Dallas Cowboys as well. I attached every memory I made to watching my dad play games. He referred to him as 'clutch.' You need to be a clutch. Clutch will make a play for us.

Every time I made a play, God brought me back to my father. He brought the reaction he had with Drew to me. There were some moments with him.

He would take a deep breath as he walked down the tunnel at Texas Stadium.

"Get this, dude, because I would look up at all the guys in the Ring of Honor and say, 'I will not humiliate you today,'" he said. I will honor your legacy. I would look down at my 88 and say to Drew, 'I will not humiliate you today'.

He had over 11,000 yards and 65 touchdown in 12 seasons. He was a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He had at least one 1,000-yard season in five of the last six years. He shared 20 Cowboys' receiving records when he retired.

The playmaker. Is it in his nickname? Lamb made a statement. His ability to come up big for the team is amazing.

"I didn't feel pressure. No pressure at all," Dez Bryant said of wearing No. 88. "And I think that's why 88, that belongs on somebody like me, because I thrive through the most difficult things." Leon Halip/Getty Images

While wearing No. 88, ANTONIO BRYANT "HAD THE FIGHT" IRvin had some exciting moments, but he didn't stay power. Bryant threw a sweaty practice jersey in the face of Bill Parcells. A few months later, he was traded to Cleveland.

Pearson had no doubts that Antonio Bryant would be the next one. Is that the guy? I did not see it.

Pearson was certain that Bryant would be worthy. They did too. At first, Bryant didn't want that number. He would like to wear 10.

Bryant was going to try to get that number if there was any chance. Jerry sat down with me and explained what 88 meant. I said, "Hell yeah."

Jones had a pitch about the history of the number.

I didn't feel pressured. Bryant said there wasn't any pressure. I thrive through the most difficult things and that is why 88 is for me. You will see the best out of me that day. It was a good fit.

Bryant recorded a franchise-record 73 touchdown catches in eight seasons. He was selected to the All-Pro team once. He had an average of 91 catches for 1,312 yards and 14 touchdown in the last three years.

Pearson said that Dez's style is all about physical. He was more aggressive than Michael. It's definitely more physical than me. You tried to catch him at the line of scrimmage, but you didn't succeed. Going up and getting a ball, Dez did that better than everyone else.

"I saw a family from a distance, and I saw a navy blue jersey and said, 'I wonder what jersey this is?' And then I saw 88," CeeDee Lamb said. "The person I was with was like, "I think it's your jersey.'" Aaron M. Sprecher/AP

Lamb didn't want the number at first. Like Bryant before him, he wanted to wear No. 10. He talked to Jones.

I was not interested in the number he gave me. I didn't want to ruin that legacy but I wasn't sure if it was ok with them. I didn't want it to be seen as a competition. I was all for it once I was told that he could wear it.

He can't think of a different number.

It has become a part of me.

He thinks he is carrying something.

He said his job was his.

"I was smiling from ear to ear" when Bryant wore a number with Lamb's name on it.

The reach of 88 hit Lamb in Puerto Rico.

Lamb said it was crazy. It's just a few days of relaxation. I looked at a navy blue jersey and wondered what it was. Then I saw 88. The person I was with thought it was mine.

Behind the family, Lamb walked up.

I was wondering who that jersey was. Lamb made a statement. They turned around and exclaimed. It's yours, right?

No.88 is more than one person's name, though.

Drew Pearson is the owner. I think it's Michael Irvin's. It's Bryant's as well.

We are Bishop and me. Jakes have been talking about this. "He told Michael that every good man should always want their son or the one who comes after him to stand on their ceiling and make it their floor."

Take it higher if you stand on their ceiling. That's what you're attempting to convey.
