The AP has learned that the Pro Bowl will be replaced by flag football and skills contests.
The full-contact showcase began in 1951. The Pro Bowl Games will feature football and non- football skills challenges and will be renamed "The Pro Bowl Games". There will be a flag football game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in February of 2023.
Manning and his company will help promote the event throughout the week. Manning will be a part of the coaching staff for the flag game and provide his perspective.
Peter O'Reilly told The Associated Press that the Pro Bowl is something that the league has been looking at for a while. After last year's game, we made the decision based on a lot of internal conversations, feedback from GMs and coaches, and feedback from players. We think there is a chance to move away from tackle football in this area. The goal is to celebrate 88 of the biggest stars in the NFL in a fun and competitive way.
The feedback from guys who had been in the Pro Bowl was to keep the construct of the week. It was positive from both players and clubs.
The Pro Bowl played in Los Angeles for 21 years before moving to different cities. The game has had several homes in the years since it was hosted in Hawaii from 1980 to 2009.
The quality of play in the Pro Bowl has been critiqued. The players treat it like an exhibition rather than a competition. A flag football game could increase competition while avoiding injury.
The National Football League is interested in flag football. The International Federation of American Football is partnering with the league to bring flag football to The World Games in July.
It has been an evolution, but coming out of Las Vegas last year we really focused on how to celebrate our all-stars even better.
The format will be announced Monday.

I'm grateful that I can continue to be part of the week as we work with the NFL to make the Pro Bowl games better. Being able to see a flag football game is great. I hope boys and girls can see themselves playing the same game as the best players in the world because youth football has been important to me.
The team rosters will still be determined by fan vote. Tom Brady was invited to the Pro Bowl 15 times. Manning was one of four players to get invites. The Shrine Bowl will be held in Las Vegas.
During the week of the Pro Bowl in 1999, New England running back RobertEdwards injured his knee and cut his leg playing a flag football game on the beach. He did not play in the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
