The House of the Dragon is a show about fire, pain, and death.
Although Larys Strong's decision to kill his father and brother in an attempt to further his own efforts stole the headlines, there was another equally fiery and devastating death that deserved our attention.
Laena Velaryon was the daughter of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and Lord Corlys Velaryon.
What did happen? Let's talk about it.
Laena is midway through labor in the sixth episode. The maester says that he has reached the limit of his art. The child won't show up. In an echo of the conversation Daemon's brother King Viserys had with Queen Aemma Arryn, he said that he may be able to save the child.
Laena heard some of the conversation. She takes matters into her own hands if she doesn't know the details. She stumbled outside and uttered the "Dracarys" command. Laena repeats the word over and over until the dragon comes to an end.

At the beginning of the episode, we see that Laena is a huge fan of riding Vhagar. She is restless in the house in Pentos, a city on the western coast of the Free Cities. Laena foretold her own death during a conversation with Daemon in which she tried to convince him not to stay.
She wants to die a dragon-rider. "That's not that of some fat country Lord."
Without being informed of her perilous situation during labor, Laena realized her fate. Laena's greatest love, Vhagar, helped her kill herself instead of giving birth.
