The device is being manufactured in the Sriperumbudur facility. The locally produced units will be sold in the country later this year. An Apple spokesman said in a statement that they were excited to be manufacturing the phone in India.

Many are hoping that Apple will make its phones affordable in India. The price of the base model of the phone in India is $980, which is $799 in the US. The entry-level model of the iPhone Pro Max costs more in India than it does in the US.

Even though Apple has a tiny market share in India, it has invested more in the country in the last five years. Two years ago, it opened its online Apple Store in the country and is currently working to open its first physical store in the nation.

One of the largest factories in the country has been set up by the Korean company. A number of Chinese phone makers assemble their phones in the country, includingXiaomi, which is currently leading the market.
