Chris Davidson, a former surfer, died after he was punched outside a pub.

Police said the man hit his head on the pavement after falling. The man died in the hospital after being treated at the scene.

A man has been arrested and charged with murder.

In 2010 and 2011, Mr. Davidson competed on the world surfing tour.

He shot to fame as a 19-year-old when he entered the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach. He beat Kelly in the first two heats.

Mr Davidson was remembered by many people after his death.

I had a good fight with this man. The 11-time world champion wrote that one of the most naturally talented surfers he had ever known.

Mark Windon is the executive director of Surfing New South Wales.

He said that he was as flamboyant as he was in the water.

For his life to end like that is really sad.

South West Rocks is a small coastal town and police have not commented on the incident.

The man was denied bail on Monday and will be in court in November.
