Herbert: 'I just didn't want to quit on the team' (0:30)

Even though he was concerned about his injury, the quarterback wanted to play against the Jags. It was 0: 30.

Only one incredibly befuddling decision allowed the Los Angeles Bolts to lose.

With 4:54 remaining in the third quarter of the Jacksonville Jags' 38-10 win over the Los Angeles Clippers, quarterback Justin Herbert, who had missed the previous two games with a rib injury, trotted onto the field to play a final series.

He wanted to be with his teammates. He wanted to end the game.

The news conference lasted seven minutes and 30 seconds. Herbert was the subject of more than half of the questions.

"I understand your whole line of questioning, I understand it," she said. When he is playing, he is going to feel this way. The injury will be there for a while. It won't feel better next week or the week after that if you know the injury. It's going to be here for a while. We are going to continue to manage it the best we can.

He confirmed that the quarterback was adamant that he wanted to continue, and that he had a conversation with him about it.

Herbert wanted to stay on the team.

When asked if he needed to protect the franchise quarterback, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 draft who the organization has built a Super-Bowl caliber roster around, he said, "For sure."

At the end of the game, there's no one else that's thinking about it more than I am, so trust me, there's no one else that's thinking about it more than I am.

Herbert said he didn't want to quit when asked how he balanced the decision to continue playing and stay on the sideline.

Herbert said that it was what the team needed. I felt like I was safe out there and I didn't want to quit on my team because sometimes you have to put your own goals and everything ahead.

Herbert was playing with a patchwork offensive line that allowed six quarterback hits and a sack.

Linsley didn't play because of a knee issue and the Pro Bowl left tackle left the game in the third quarter because of a bicep injury

Several injuries were dealt with by the Bolts.

Bosa left the game in the first quarter with a groin injury, while Guyton was forced to leave the game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury.

J.C. Jackson missed his second game of the season because he is still recovering from ankle surgery.

The Houston Texans are the only team that has yet to win a game, while the Cleveland Browns are the only team that has yet to lose a game.

Herbert said he would likely play before the start of the game.

Herbert had a feeling that he would go in and see how it felt. I was going to take it easy before the warm-ups.

Herbert wouldn't say if he received a pain-killing injection before the game.

Herbert said that he would like to keep his private life out of the public eye. I trust the doctors. The training staff is trusted by me. They won't put me in danger. I was going to play because they felt like it was safe.

Herbert had never missed a game since taking over as starter in Week 2 of 2020, when then-starter Tyrod Taylor was ruled out only minutes before the game after suffering a punctured lung.

The doctor is being sued for medical malpractice by Taylor, who is seeking at least $5 million.

The Bolts fell behind 13-0 in the second quarter after the Jags scored 10 points off turnovers.

Herbert led a nine-play, 75-yard drive that he capped with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Mike Williams.

Herbert threw a 54-yard pass to Guyton to start the second half, which led to a 25-yard field goal that made it a one-possession game.

The man was throwing the football well. He had to speed up at times because of the protection, but he threw the ball well today.

Herbert said that his performance was not good.

How did he feel? Herbert thanked the person and said he felt good.
